I noticed a few analysts mention that the expected qualifying offer for free agents to be in the $13.3 mil range. If Soriano opts out of his deal and receives the $1.5 million buyout, would the Yankees still need to pay that if they were to make the qualifying offer (in order to net the draft pick) but then have Soriano to turn around and accept it? Curious because I guess it's possible that if they make the qualifying offer, it's possible that Soriano could turn it into an extra $800k.
