The National League earned home-field advantage in the World Series for the third straight year with an 8-0 win over the American League in the All-Star Game. Tigers ace Justin Verlander put the game out of reach almost immediately, allowing five runs in the first inning. Matt Harrison served up the rest of the NL's offense in the fourth, giving up three runs on four hits. Former Yankee Melky Cabrera took home MVP honors, going 2-3 with a home run and two RBI.

That's really about it. Even for an exhibition game there wasn't much to keep things interesting. The AL mounted next to zero offense against the NL's conga line of Matt Cain, Gio Gonzalez, Stephen Strasburg, Clayton Kershaw, Cole Hamels and R.A. Dickey. Oh well.

• Robinson Cano: 1-2 with a single off Strasburg in the fourth
