Robinson Cano to defend Home Run Derby Title as American League Captain
Cano added to the dominance of left handed batters in the derby, as lefties have won nine of the last eleven contests. Matt Kemp will oppose Cano as the captain of the National League. No word yet on if the four National Leaguers will pitch to one another to maintain the symmetry, tradition, and strategy of the contest.
Some injury updates
Cliff notes: David Robertson threw thirty-five pitches and is expected back late next week.
Brett Gardner came to the plate five times in extended spring training. He could be back as soon as this weekend, but the beginning of next week is probably more likely.
Ty Hensley Expected to Sign Quickly
"I’m ready to get this thing started. I want to get out and play as soon as possible." As the thirtieth pick of the first round, Hensley is slotted at $1.6M.
Whatever Happened to the Ibanez/Jones Platoon?
Raul Ibanez facing a left handed reliever late in a game and then being subbed for defense an inning or two later doesn't make a whole lot of sense on a team that has Jones. With Ibanez hitting well in the early going and a shortage in the outfield, I understand wanting to give him regular time and hang on to the hot streak. With Ibanez somewhat cooled off and a return of Brett Gardner on the horizon, the playing time will have to be re-shuffled.
