Another Prediction of Jeter Doom
MLB injury news has a history-based take on Derek Jeter's future. I'm reminded of something that Casey Stengel once said around the age of 80. Asked how he thought the future would be, he said "short." I think it was Casey, anyway. Maybe it was Groucho Marx. Or Charlie Brown. Anyway, the problem with saying that there have been few players able to play shortstop successfully at Jeter's age is that the Yankees don't care if Jeter can play the position successfully. He'll be a shortstop as long as they say he's a shortstop. Ability doesn't enter into it.
