As related via Hardball Talk, Sherman hears from sources close to the aging singles hitter that he might stay because of the relaxed atmosphere, sans-a-belt trousers, and earlybird special:

According to Sherman’s source Suzuki "enjoyed playing in a professional, winning atmosphere with so many contemporaries near his age range" and a one-year contract "in the $5 million-to-$8 million range might get it done."

"So many contemporaries near his age range" is actually kind of redundant, but let's let it stand -- it says a lot.

Meanwhile, over at SB Nation New York, Ed Valentine takes issue with my dismissal of Ichiro as an adequate Nick Swisher replacement:

It's not about the Sabermetrics. It's not even about the age difference. It's about the playoffs. For the Yankees, it has to be about the playoffs, and the type of players you need once you get there.

I'm not necessarily advocating for Swisher to get a big contract (as Ed acknowledges), but I will say this: Swisher may be a terrible postseason player, but he will help you get there, and even the Yankees can't take that for granted. Your turn, Mr. Valentine.
