The Yankees have ten games left in the regular season and a very comfortable six game lead in the loss column over the Red Sox. They start those final ten games tonight against the Rays, as Ivan Nova will face off against Wade Davis.
Tonight marks the first time this season that Davis, who owns a career 2.25 ERA at Yankee Stadium, will face the Yanks. Overall, he has a 3.81 ERA against the Yankees for his career.
Ivan Nova has been outstanding in the second half of the season, largely due in part to his maturity after being sent to the minors. He took the demotion well, worked on his off speed pitches, and has come back to force his way into the Yankees postseason plans. He may even force Girardi to give him the ball in game two.
In one start against the Rays this season, Nova is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA (5 1/3 IP, 4 hits, 1 run, 4 K's). Let's hope for similar results tonight, maybe a little more length.
