Game 86 Preview: Yankees vs. Rays, 7:05 ET

Stay connected for news and updates

The Yankees return to the Bronx tonight with Derek Jeter just three hits from 3,000. You probably know this.

Right-hander Jeff Niemann is on the hill for the Rays, who begin play in third place in the AL East, four games behind the Yankees. Jeter has had success against Niemann, going 5-for-9 with two doubles a walk in their short history.

After an extended winning streak, the Yankees are scuffling a bit, losers of three of their last four. The mini-slump has allowed the Red Sox to creep right back to the brink of first place, just one half game out. Bartolo Colon looks to keep the Yankees on top, making his second start since coming off the disabled list. His 2.88 ERA is a marvel of science.
