If you think that Brian Cashman mishandled the Jeter contract negotiations this past offseason, or that Jorge Posada was disrespected, read this:
Joe DiMaggio (HOF/Retired Number)-Retired after the 1951 season at age 36. Was offered a contract by the team as a pinch hitter, which they knew he’d refuse.
That beats what happened to Bernie Williams and Joe Torre, and is right up there with releasing Babe Ruth while he was on a tour of Japan.
Asked why reliever Eric O’Flaherty didn’t start the seventh, Gonzalez said, "When you’re on the road, you’ve got to push guys back a little bit, because you can’t use your closer on the road in the ninth inning of a tie ballgame."
