PREGAME NOTES:
Yanks are on a bit of a roll having won six of their last eight games.
David Ortiz is just 6-for-29 (.207) against the Yanks this season with a homer, no walks and six strikeouts.
Tim Wakefield is a lifetime 9-17, 5.14 ERA, 1.44 WHIP in 47 games (30 starts) against the Yanks. He is 0-1, 6.94 ERA, 1.46 WHIP in 2 starts against them in 2008.
Andy Pettitte is a lifetime 16-7, 3.54 ERA, 1.37 WHIP in 31 games (29 starts) against the Red Sox. He is 1-1, 5.06 ERA, 1.87 WHIP in 2 starts against them in 2008.
Red Sock hitters vs. Pettitte can be viewed here. Yanks' hitters vs. Wakefield can be viewed here.
JOBA TO THROW THURSDAY: Joba Chamberlain is expected to throw 45 pitches in the pen on Thursday and the Yankee hierarchy will make an evaluation on his status after his session.
Joe Girardi offered no details but it is possible that Chamberlain could be activated after his session and return to the bullpen so that he can be stretched out again for a move back into the rotation.
Not sure if that's wise, but it seems that the results of this series could make the decision on Chamberlain for them.
